Last but not least

On Friday I spent a couple of hours helping to mark places for vendors for the art festival. I used silver spray paint!

Saturday I got to the RACC at 9:30. I worked the Scholastic Book Fair. It was interesting trying to work the cash register. I am pretty sure the tape was really messed up...really messed up, but now I have that for experience. I was there until 2pm, then I went home and got ready for work. That was a long night.

no slowing down

It's going to be a tough end to the week. I went in this morning at 10am to help out in what little time I had. I helped set up the stage, and I didn't finish so I am going back tomorrow at the same time. Apparently on Saturday I will be doing the book fair!

Last push

Today I went in bright and early to the RACC to help with set up for the art festival they have going on this weekend. I will be helping out with that too. I put up walls for a tent and then I filled 100 bags for runners.

I think tomorrow I will be painting something.

Caz on monday!

Jazz Mondays

Last night I helped out with Jazz Mondays at the RACC.

I got there and helped Lauren set up, and then she showed me how to work the cafe and cash register. I only used it twice and I screwed up both times...

The music was good. I think I like live bands...most of the time.

This morning after a dentist appointment I went in to the RACC just to let Lauren know that I have about 9 hours left that are required. She wasn't there so I helped Dale sort through some float stuff and when Lauren arrived I let her know that I would like to do some events to get that time done.

Tonight at 6pm I am going to help out with a concert.

Honor America Days

Yesterday I went in at 8:30am to the RACC to get ready for the parade. I put on my ghost costume and then waited for others to get ready so we could go. I drove with 3 girls in my back seat to the float. When we got there we got things ready, which really consisted of waiting for things. There was a lawn that we were by and apparently nobody knew how to clean up after their dogs, there was dog crap everywhere and everyone was stepping in it. Luckily, I did not. Stacy called me in a panic because the bus hadn't come and she had to go to work, so I left to go get her. While I was finding my way around the maze that the parade had created she called again to let me know she had gotten on the bus finally. Cool, but now I have to find my way back and find a parking spot...

I got back and slowly but surely we began to move. I handed out candy to greedy children that had their hands out expecting something. Some of them were not greedy, but when they were greedy it was a mob of them. I stayed about a quarter of a mile behind the float because I was trying to hand candy out, every once in a while I had to run back up to the float. When we got to the judging stand we all grabbed a bone and did a dance. Then we went on and finished the parade, and I still trailed behind.

At the end of the parade we all got onto the float to ride back the the RACC. We were stopped because to get back we had to cross the road that the parade was still going on. They said it would take 20 minutes so some of us decided to walk. I said that I was going to just find my car and go because I figured it wasn't far, but I didn't know where exactly so I asked for directions.

I walked in a huge block and even called Matt for directions while I was walking and basically found my way back to the RACC and not to my car... So then I had to wait and help with the float until someone could give me a ride to my car. While I was waiting Lauren told me that someone had fallen off the float and had to be taken to the hospital after I had left. I wasn't there and didn't see it, but I guess it was bad. Lame, but eventually I got back to my car and luckily Stacy worked a little bit late so I was able to get her and she didn't have to take the bus.

We went home and made wontons. They were good. I think I am becoming a wonderful little house wife, and apparently I cook well. Thats good I guess, except that means I have been doing the cooking all summer.

Long day.

Day #4

So I guess I didn't realize that stapling could be a back breaking job, but if you do it for hours on end I guess it becomes one.

Candy Candy Candy

More of the candy thing again... I went to Wal-Mart to buy $50 more of it, so looks like that's what I'll be doing until Saturday. Then the parade. I start work on Wednesday next week so I am hoping to get a lot of hours in this week and the beginning of next week.

More Candy

I continued today with candy. I stapled coupons to bags of candy instead of stuffing them. Honestly, today was worse. YAY PARADES!

I didn't finish the bags so I am going back tomorrow to finish them up. There should be about 1000 when I'm done.

Pride

So today I went into the RACC to do some banner making. They were black banners with white lettering that said, "ROME ART AND COMMUNITY CENTER." They are for the float, which apparently looks amazing, but I haven't seen it yet. I am supposed to be in the parade, but I am probably starting work next week so I hope that I can do it.

When I was there some couple came in to get wedding pictures done because the building is beautiful. When I left it started raining...hope it wasn't an outside wedding.

We have chemistry.

Looks like we are actually going to get this thing started. I went in this morning and talked to Lauren about chemistry. She kind of talks to me like I have never taken a college course in my life and I don't know anything about budgeting, but that's okay. So I went to a few websites that may sound familiar, adorama, freestylephoto, and bhphotovideo to find some prices on chemicals. Looks like it is going to be about $300 to do a six week class for 10 people. That excludes all the things that they will have to buy themselves like paper and film. Nothing is confirmed yet, but Lauren is going to look at what I found and make a decision. We also need a film dryer, which costs about $800, so maybe we can rig something up instead. So far its only a black and white dark room, but there is a color enlarger, the problem is that there is some tube for color processing that I have no clue how to use, its not a table top its manual. Interesting, maybe I can get that set up before I go, but we will see. Amazingly, it took me 4 hours.

Photographer=photos

This morning I went into the RACC and started by finishing up some labeling for drawers and cabinets. Then I put together a list of chemicals and things that we need to really get started. I need to have a meeting with Lauren about the list but she was busy today so I am going to talk to her tomorrow morning.

After that work I went out to take pictures of the children's camp that they have going on right now. It was the first time all summer that I have taken real pictures and I feel like a poop, but its the sad sad truth. I need more photo time.

There was a school for the deaf taking a tour today. It made me want to learn sign language.

"not photography related"

Today I went in to the RACC and built some shelves. They were the easy to put together kind that you get in a box. You can find them pretty much everywhere. When I was done someone told me that they didn't need to be done until Holiday House. I guess I'm just doing useless stuff to pass the time now. I wish that I felt like I was doing something useful.

New Career Options

Today I went into the RACC to do some sign making for the photo lab. I got there and made a list and then I came back to the apartment to type them up. I did some research first on what other labs had for rules and regulations. I drove back to the RACC to print them up. When I got there I got onto a computer and printed them off. One large one and the rest regular paper size. The regular paper sized ones Lauren said I could LAMINATE.

Wow, if I could be paid to laminate things all day I would. It was an amazing experience. I think I found my dream job.

Anywhoo, I put the signs in the photo lab and made a little booklet of all of the signs for reference. Yay, another 4 hours. I am trying to get 20 hours in this week so I will be back tomorrow to put together some shelving for them.

4 hours today.

Long Day

Today I went back to the estate sale. We sold a lot, but not everything. I don't know the profit, but I guess it was good. Today I did a lot of carrying things out and holding doors. That's better than sitting around.

Tomorrow I am going back to work, but I am going to end my job on Wednesday so that I can concentrate more on my internship, and then I will start my Turningstone job soon.

Another 8 hours today.

The Cheese Stands Alone

Okay so after thinking that I could actually get in to the RACC at all last week I didn't until Friday for 1 hour. We talked about our top secret float plans.

Then today I went in around 7:30am to help with the estate sale. I am going in tomorrow too. It was an easy day, I just made sure no one took anything or switched tags. For most of the day I sat around or answered questions. I listened to Lauren say "please watch you step" about a million times. That was 8.5 hours.

It's getting crazy.

Okay so originally I was going to get caught up on my hours this past week, but that didn't happen. I am still very short. I got that crazy temp job at the olive oil plant dumping bottles until my hands fall off, and I didn't go to the RACC at all until this morning. Today I finished painting the room, but it looks shotty cause the painters tape sucks... I'll get pictures up soon. Hopefully next week I will work 3-5pm every day after work which is 6:15am-2:45pm. It's going to be a busy week, again. I hope I can get the hours in.

Today I did 3 hours.

Happy Birthday to me.

So today is my birthday, but that doesn't mean I can just be a slacker...

I went in today after dropping Stacy off in Marcy. I finished painting the first coat. I am sad to report that up until Shanna mentioned it I did not think to take pictures. It probably would have been a good idea. I will take one of the finished product though.

While I was there I got a call from the temp agency and they said that they have a 3 day job for me making olive oil...thats great, but its from 6:15am to 2:30pm. Guess I will have to get started early with the festivities tonight. Tomorrow night I am going to Sumo, a hibachi restaurant for a celebration. Mom and Dad are paying for Stacy and I as birthday gifts. It's going to be fun. If you've never been then I highly recommend and hibachi restaurant, food and entertainment.

Hopefully I will return to my internship on Thursday.

Today I did 3 hours.

Another day another hour.

On Saturday I was supposed to get a good 3 hours at least, but I showed up and Lauren was nowhere to be found. LAME! So I went back a little later and racked up 1 hour because I had reservations to take Stacy out for her B-day. By the way tomorrow is mine...

Then today I went in and did some painting. Originally I wanted to do a dark gray, but I had to pick from what they already had, so I went with chocolate brown. Its glossy so its hard to get a nice even coat, it will need at least 2. I met Lauren's mother today and she helped me do some repairing of the dry wall. That was nice. I am going to go in tomorrow again and finish. I got about a quarter of the way through in about 4 hours.

Today I did 4 hours.

Altogether I have 11 hours. slowly but surely.

day 2 similar things

Today I went into the RACC again. I started off wiping down everything in sight. Then I swept. I didn't get to the sink area yet, I guess that will be tomorrow. When I was cleaning I noticed that the walls are really gross. Lauren said I could paint, and I was thinking that might be a good idea, but I don't want to move the enlargers out. I was thinking I could paint 3 walls and leave the enlarger wall. It is a cream color and I would paint the other walls dark gray. It shouldn't look too bad, and if it did I could always move them. I think I will do that. Tomorrow I need to make a list of things to be done that I can't do, like plumbing and covering the window.

After I was done today I went downstairs and told Lauren I was leaving. Her and Sandy let me in on a top secret idea for a float they are putting in a parade. I think that will be some hours I can count.

Today I did 3.5 hours.

First day on the job.

Yesterday I went into the RACC to "schedule" my internship hours. The problem is that I am going to the temp agency tomorrow to get a job, so I don't know my schedule yet, and the Wal-mart Photo Center is another option. So basically I walked in as Lauren was walking out and she said come in when you can during business hours. So I told her I would be in today at 11am.

I went in today and I just asked Sandy, the secretary for some garbage bags. Then I went upstairs to get started cleaning out the room. The photo lab has been used, but it has been about 10 years, and they have been sort of using the room for storage. Whoever planned the space didn't do a great job either. It is on the third floor and it has 2 windows. One of them is covered pretty well, but the other needs to be covered, and it is rather warm in there, which isn't good. So I got lost finding my way to the 3rd floor by the way. This place used to be a house, so there are all these cool little rooms and hallways, but it is interesting trying to find places. I put everything not photo related in the "Alice in Wonderland" room. Then I started going through the boxes. There is a lot of very old stuff that expired in the 80's, so new chemicals are a must, but I figured that anyway. At some point I tried to turn on the water and it spat yellow water at me. That needs to be looked at. There are 5 enlargers set up. One doesn't work, but the room is too small for it anyway. One is not set up at all and it is HUGE. It must be for large format film and prints. I don't think that I can set it up by myself. They have all they need basically, but chemicals and plumbing needs to be dealt with. I brought Lauren up to have a look and she was pleased that she could see the floor. I told her about the plumbing and she said she could have someone look at it. Then she told me that I should set everything up so that it works efficiently and that I would need to make signs for everything. She basically said everything is completely up to me, so I guess that is good and bad. I will have absolutely no help, but I can do what I want and go in when I want. I am going to try to do 10 hours a week, and there is 10 weeks left so I should be right on schedule. Hopefully I can help with some of the film editing classes to add on some hours. Going in tomorrow after the temp agency.

Today I did 2.5 hours.
